Stein Bøe tests Dalen 2054

Very easy to operate!

It is supervisor Stein Bøe at Vekst Oppdal who says this about their wood machine – a Dalen 2054. They have continuous wood production throughout the year, and total approximately 1.6 million in wood. It's about 800-900 pallets and 7,000-8,000 sacks. A total of 7-8 persons are involved in the production of wood throughout the year.

Vekst Oppdal is an rehabilitation company owned by Oppdal municipality, and Stein Bøe joined the company 15 years ago. The company is doing well and this year they ran out of wood in Europe as early as mid-July. In addition to wood production, they have laundry, dry cleaning, transportation, green service and assembly department. In summer, they also mow lawn. To the Sami, 80-90 people are engaged in the different departments.

The wood production department is efficiently laid up and the production itself is carried out inside. The logs are fed through the house wall and the pre-charred wood is transported either to a silo or a large bag. From the silo, the wood comes out on to a tray at the correct working height so that they can be stacked in a sack.

"Getting rid of the wood is not a problem, and demand is actually increasing every year. We thought there would be less need when the heat pumps arrived, but that hasn't happened. Here there have been temperatures of minus 25-30 degrees for long periods, and then the heat pumps work poorly. Many cabin customers also want to have the wood for the sake of the cuddle.

Safe, stable and solid wood machine

We have many different users, which is why the simple operation is very important. They quickly learn to use both the steering of the band and the hydraulic knife. Safety-wise, it is also very safe to use. Stability and solidity are characteristics of the machine, and it is highly reliable.

– The wood maker is installed under a roof and runs every working day all year round. There is little trouble with Dalen 2054, it is solid and has good functionality. Maintenance is a big deal to change chains when it is rarely needed," he says.

They buy into the wood bars from glommen Skogeierforening which supplies from all over østerdalsområdet. The logs range from 10 – 48 cm in dimension. The logs are taken down with logging machines, which especially in the spring goes hard beyond the bark of the stranges. They always use a 4-splitting knife, as this is most convenient for them. The logs that become too large are caught up and split in smaller dimensions.

Growth Oppdal as has a lot of cabin customers and most people want the wood transported. They are demanding the quality of the wood and Vekst Oppdal as endeavours to deliver according to The Norwegian Standard, delivered on time and place. In addition to all the cabin customers, they also have resident customers from Sunndalsøra and north to Berkåk.

–The wood is driven out onto Europaller, and the truck takes 6 pallets. In addition to the fact that a lot of wood is stored outside with pallets on, they also have a large storage room with a roof above. During hectic periods, a slightly smaller machine is also used by other products.

Uses everything

We make use of most things. The chip is driven to a horse sports centre, and is used there in the stables. The last cube on the log often does not have full length and this wood is sold as a residual or indomitable commodity as it does not follow the Norwegian Standard. The smallest dimensions are packed in sacks and sold as firewood.

"It is important to provide good service in terms of the delivery of the wood, and the bags we supply are only 40l in size considering that they are easy to handle. We put the bags where the customer wants, preferably on terraces and in wood sheds says the engaged supervisor.
